Russian
Hooks®
At the turn of the century a great number of
Russian immigrants settled into Saginaw Bay area of Michigan. They became
well known for their success in farming. These immigrants brought with
them a knowledge of fishing through the ice - learned during their rigorous
winters spent in Russia.
Their favorite lure was a spoon that they cut out of a tin
can, bent to the shape desired, and soldered a hook to. For bait they used
fish eyes or a small piece of worm attached to the hook. They would jig
this spoon up and down rapidly for a short time , stop and let it sit, and then
repeat until they had a strike. Saginaw Bay then, as now, had a abundance
of perch, walleye, and bass. More often then not they would catch all they
wanted in a very short time. Each lure is hand made and air brushed
painted.
